The fellowship began as the Episcopal Morning Prayer Group in October 1997 and met in private apartments. The group, mainly from the USA, contacted the Bishop in Europe (who oversees English–language ministry across continental Europe for the Church of England). The Bishop, John Hind, visited in April 1998 and saw the need for a resident Minister. In the spring of 1999, the Revd Jonathan Frais moved from being Assistant Chaplain at St Andrew’s, Moscow. With support from Intercontinental Church Society (an Anglican mission agency), the group started meeting in a Lutheran room (beside the Lutheran Church) at 12 Luteranska.

Canon John Moore of ICS came as Bishop’s Commissary to license Jonathan as ‘Anglican Chaplain in Kiev’ and the group took the name ‘Christ Church’. The church outgrew its room and moved to the British International School (then at 72 Artema) in December 1999 and then, in April 2001, to St Catherine’s Lutheran Church in April 2001. From the beginning, the congregation has welcomed Christians of different denominations and nationalities and experienced a high turnover of members. May our gracious God continue to use the gatherings to sustain faith in Christ and point many to the gospel of his eternal love.
